About me

This is a lifelong obsession

I am a freelance musician, producer, mix engineer and sound engineer based in Scotland.

I have been a gigging musician since I was a high school student, written for original bands since the late 90s and been a session guitarist since 2009. I have never stopped playing music since I was 14 and never will. It is an absolute part of who I am. Over the years I have found myself playing all over the UK and have opened for established acts such as Skindred, Paul Di’Anno (Iron Maiden) and Breed 77.

In 2006, desperate to work in music full time, I agreed to be a live sound engineer without having any skills at all. And there started my obsession with sound and put an end to having a normal job, or even a normal life!

In 2008 I graduated college in Sound Production with top marks, a couple of awards and a plan to be a producer. I didn’t waste any time, getting straight into recording bands on location and dry hiring local studios. My ethos was simple, if there are no studio jobs, I’ll just have to make one. By 2012 I was the in-house engineer in a well established Edinburgh studio where I really cut my teeth doing all sorts of recordings: from local bands, voiceover, sync for film and TV and a host of other things. This gave me a massive grounding and really allowed me to develop. In that space I got my first taste of commercial success, out-mixing a top Scottish producer all the way to Radio 1, going on to collaborate with Idris Elba, Mr Hudson and providing music for TVs ‘Benidorm’ and ‘Made in Chelsea’.

In 2016, I made a bold decision and set up my own studio in a rehearsal complex in Edinburgh, turning my back on an established studio with 100k of amazing equipment. This was one of the best decisions I ever made. In my own space, I thrived making my own decisions, using my own workflow and having full creative control. Previous clients came with me without promoting and I made a host of new friends and clients such as Dogs D’Amour, Simon Hanson (Squeeze, Ace of Base, Death in Vegas) Spike Grey (Quireboys) The King Lot and many more.

We all know what happened in 2020, and with that, and planning permission looming over me, I chose to close my studio and return to freelance work. This was both bold and necessary, but I had an ace up my sleeve. It was at this point I started my long standing relationship with Post Electric Studios, one of the most stunning studios in Scotland. Clients again followed me and new friends were made in this space. There I recorded such bands as Joe Goodall, Battalion of Flies and SAMA Award Winner Jack Rowberry. The bar was once again raised.

So, what does this all mean. Well, regardless of you wanting me playing on a record, touring with you, producing or mixing a record or manning the desk at a festival or gig… I have got you covered and have the chops to prove it!

It’s not just my job, it’s my whole life.

I do have hobbies; I play music for fun!
